Hand-Painted Cobalt Floral Planter

This planter wears the same cobalt sky as the rest of the collection, but its canvas curves outward — a tapered body that widens toward the rim, giving the artisan's hand more room to wander. A vine climbs the belly of the pot, leaves unfurling in pairs, never quite repeating itself. At the lip, a ring of lotus petals stands guard, ivory against blue, the way they do on temple thresholds.

Set it on a sunlit sill with something trailing and green, or let it sit empty — a small, glazed fragment of Rajasthan, holding its own shape and story. The drainage hole at the base means it's ready for soil the moment you are.

The Craft

Jaipur blue pottery takes its name from cobalt oxide, ground into the glaze that gives the city's signature ware its depth. The base is not clay but quartz paste — a technique brought to Jaipur generations ago and kept alive today by a small circle of artisan families. Each motif is painted freehand, the brush moving without a stencil, which is why the vine on one planter never quite matches the vine on the next. Wheel-thrown, hand-painted, and kiln-fired, every piece carries the particular rhythm of the hand that made it.
