We believe the most beautiful things in a home have a name and a story behind them. Every piece we carry is made in Ramganj Bazar by craftsmen whose families have painted pottery for generations.

THE CRAFT

Four centuries of blue pottery

Blue pottery takes its name not from its colour but from the cobalt oxide in its glaze — a mineral pigment painted by Jaipur's artisans for over four centuries. The base is not clay but quartz paste, giving each piece its distinctive weight, high-gloss finish, and pure white unglazed base. Every piece is shaped by hand, fired twice, and painted with mineral pigments. No two are ever exactly alike.

The Artisans

Hands that have done this for generations

In the narrow lanes of Ramganj Bazar, families wake before sunrise to mix quartz paste, sketch motifs freehand, and fire kilns that have been burning for decades. Every line — the curve of a petal, the stroke of a leaf — is drawn by a single brush held by a single hand. The lotus, the peacock, the marigold — painted from memory, refined over centuries.

"No two pieces are painted in exactly the same way. The slight variations you notice are not imperfections — they are proof of the hand that made them."

GI-tagged craft from Jaipur

Blue pottery is recognised by the Government of India as a Geographical Indication product - it can only authentically come from Jaipur. When you buy from Prakrit Living, you are buying something that cannot be replicated anywhere in the world.

An extension of Prakrit Stays

Prakrit Living grew out of Prakrit Stays — our boutique hospitality brand in Jaipur. Guests fell in love with the pottery they found in their rooms and asked where they could take a piece home. That question became this store.
