The Craft

Jaipur blue pottery takes its name from the cobalt oxide that gives it colour — a pigment ground and applied by hand by artisans who have inherited this tradition across generations. The base is not clay but quartz paste, a material that produces blue pottery's distinctive weight, its high-gloss surface, and the warm terracotta unglazed foot visible on the base of this bowl.

Each piece is wheel-thrown, glazed by hand, and painted entirely freehand. The lotus at the centre — every petal, every gradation of colour — is the work of a single brush and a steady hand.
