This incense holder is shaped like the hamsa — the open hand that across cultures has meant the same thing: I see you. You are protected. Peace lives here. Formed in Jaipur blue pottery, hand-painted in cobalt and white with a blooming peony at its centre and finger-tips sketched in the old style, it is small enough to fit in your palm and quietly arresting enough to anchor an entire shelf.

It holds up to three incense sticks at once, fanned out the way smoke prefers to travel — wide and unhurried. The two holes are set at an angle so the sticks lean naturally, the way hands do when offered in greeting.

The Craft

Jaipur blue pottery is one of India's oldest surviving craft traditions — Persian in origin, Rajasthani in soul. Unlike most ceramics, it is made without clay. The body is a paste of quartz stone powder, multani mitti, and natural gum, shaped by hand and dried slowly in the shade. Colour comes from cobalt oxide, painted freehand by craftsmen who have spent decades perfecting a single stroke.

No two pieces are identical. The slight variations in shading, the soft imprecision of a petal's edge — these are not flaws. They are the signature of a hand.

How to Use

Care

Wipe clean with a dry or slightly damp cloth. Do not soak or submerge. Keep away from prolonged direct sunlight to preserve the glaze's depth. Handle with the care you'd give anything made by hand — it will last a lifetime.
