The colour that started it all.
This is the blue that Jaipur is known for — deep cobalt, the shade of a night sky just before it turns fully dark. Against it, yellow flowers bloom, painted in fine detail by a hand that has made this same movement a thousand times and still finds something new in it each time. This 12cm footed bowl is the classic form of Jaipur blue pottery, and the most requested. The raised pedestal base gives it a quiet elegance that makes it as beautiful empty on a shelf as it is full at the table.

The Craft
Blue pottery takes its name not from its colour but from the cobalt oxide used in its glaze — a mineral pigment that has been ground, mixed and painted by Jaipur's artisans for over four centuries. The base is not clay. It is quartz paste — a unique material that gives blue pottery its distinctive weight, its high-gloss finish, and its pure white unglazed base, visible on the foot of the bowl. Each bowl is shaped on a wheel, glazed by hand, kiln-fired, and painted entirely freehand. No two are identical.
